I'm rather confused...

I just did an about 75% WC on my 120g tank stocked with 3 Oscars. 2 are about 5 inches, other is roughly 7 inches. Also 2 JD's which are around 3-4inches. Also 2 small jewels.

I cleaned the sand, pushing it around, moved around a few rocks and change 2 airstones.

I've given it a couple of hours and the water is still extremely cloudy. Is this just substrate still spinning around or is there something more I should be looking into.

As an extra note I've changed some filter media today - I run 2 Aquapro 2 external filters. In addition, I removed some decor from the tank.

Tank has been established for nearly a year now.

Do I need to do another WC? Or do I just need to be patient.

u messed up your biological

ur tank needs to re-cycle

watch your ammonia and nitrite....

i would go buy some bacteria....

Thanks for the reply....

only problem is that its 9pm here and there is no where to go out to buy anything.

it seems to slowly be clearing up slightly... very slightly.

anyone know if there is anything i can do?

would a w/c tomorrow help or make things worse?

honestly if you just cleaned everything and it's cloudy the same day, it's probably just the sand/substrate still floating around, not saying if you have or have not messed up your bacteria, even if you did it would probably just cause a small mini/cycle and maybe a bacteria bloom but normally that wouldn't show on the same day as cleaning, i'm betting what you are seeing is just the substrate still floating around and prob. be cleared almost up in the morning. good idea before you move the sand around a lot is cutting the filters off for a few minutes so it doesn't get so stirred up. i'd still watch it close and maybe test for ammonia over the next lil while just incase you did mess up you bacterial colony.

Thanks for the replies...

Checked on the tank first thing in the morning and things are fine - water is crystal clear.

probably was just the substrate stirred around.

Reason for such a mega wc was I was in the middle of setting up a little tank for bfs daughter at the same time and I just forgot.

Glad to hear everything cleared up, Most of your beneficial bacteria is going to be on any surfaces in the tank and not really in the water itself, large waterchanges shouldn't hurt anything very much as long as conditioned water is going back in. once every couple months i'll be doing something and drain more water than i plan, never had a problem.

correction, most of the beneficial bacteria is housed in the bio-media, and large water changes can in fact be detrimental to these colonies.

agree with most beneficial bacteria being in your bio-media, worded it wrong, what i don't understand is how large water changes can hurt the bacterial colonies. unless you are letting your bio-media drain and dry out during the change maybe. just wondering.
