hi i have been keeping fish for roughly ten years and have never come across this issue. i have a 130 gallon tank. it was a set up to house my old s. american cichlids. they were in there for 5 weeks no problem, all ok. i have just got rid of them and put a group of fronts in there and the water has gone so cloudy you can barely see them. it is like a big white cloud in there but from some angles it is green. i have tried water changes every 2-3 days but nothing is working. any help will be great. sorry if i sound stupid and there is a easy explanation

A little more info....
Did you clean everything when you changed over to Fronts?
You may have killed off your beneficial bacteria and are now experiencing an ammonia spike. Your nitrogen cycle may be starting over.

Test your water parameters and post.

this might sound bad but no i never cleaned or changed anything as all was ok. and i have never tested my water as it has always been crytal clear. i could post a picture of it if that would help

cloudy water usually means ammonia spike. its caused by the rapid multiplying of bacteria to consume the large amounts of ammonia.

i'd do some VERY generous water changes, and hope it clears up. for a fish keeper of 10 years im pretty surprised you don't have a test kit.

i know might sound silly. i have always kept cichlids and have never had no problems whatsoever. i will go out tomorrow and buy a testing kit. so apart from big water changes which i have tried but will carry on doing what else is there that i could do

i dont have one here i could go out and get one if it is likely to be a problem for a while or is it something that i could get get cleared up rather sharpish, like any treatment to add to the tank or something like that

Has this tank only been set up for a few weeks? I note that you said the tank was set up for your sa cichlids and "they were in there for 5 weeks". Also how many sa cichlids did you have and what size were they compared to how many fronts you now have and what size they are. You might not have enough beneficial bacteria built up if you have more inches of fish than you did have. What type of filters are you using on this 130g and how long have they been in operation?
