Hi guy's I have a coldwater set up for my European Lobster, after adding him on Sunday the water has became really cloudy, especially today! Now after my research I can tell that it could be one of two reasons, my sand is being constantly stirred by the lobster suspending it in the water, however I highly doubt it as I can hardly see through it, or the second option the tank has suffered a bacterial bloom and is trying to right it? I performed a 15% water change but its back to the same state, does anyone have any idea's what to do? Thanks!

Keep on the frequent, small WC and it will clear

Thanks for the info, is this bad for the lobster? Does this mean the tank is going through a mini cycle or just becoming accustomed?

It can be bad for the lobster depending on what is causing it. Either way it isn't good for the lobster or for you, so yes try to keep doing water changes.

What substrate do you have? This could contribute if it was very dirty when placed in the tank. When doing water changes try to siphon the substrate if you can(big enough size to do so).

What are you feeding your lobster? Try to make sure you aren't over feeding and leaving pieces in the tank that aren't eaten. This is especially important with newer tanks because the bacteria that breaks it down is not as prolific.

Do you add anything to your water? Adding too much calcium can cause calcium precipitation or a snowy look.

Will continue with the daily water changes, I have sand in there however it was used on another tank previously to this so I don't think this can be the issue. The lobster is fed on frozen prawns however they are netted out after 30 mins and he has not eaten yet. I don't add anything to my water, simply the salt mix, I still have no idea what is causing it?

Did the tank cycle before the lobster added to the tank?....just curious because I only had cloudy water when I added sand....

Why would you be having another "Mini-cycle"?

In my experience stocking shouldnt cloud water unless you have really over done it.

I'm wondering the same thing. I have a lobster ready to go into new tank but 16 hours later - still cloudy from live sand. have filter running with a polisher now instead of carbon. lots of water movement hope its helping and not prolonging.. been about 16 hours still looks the same... all other levels look good. would adding salt at this point help or hinder? anxious to get her in the tank bc shes in a temporary small one now that nees frequent WC's. how much will this sand cloud affect, should i keep waiting?
