cloudy water

i had a canister filter crack last monday and only had 1 canister running all last week...saturday i got my dual sump setup completed and up and running on my 240 but as soon as i got it running my water clouded up..its been running with the dual sump system with sponges in one side and bioballs in the other and 2 500gph pumps...the filter media is out of my canisters...i havent tested the water yet because the LFS i get it checked at is closed on sundays. any ideas what might be the problem.

i took in a water sample and had it tested....i guess the cloudiness is a bacterial bloom cause my ammonia was 4ppm and so i guess this mess with my filters cause a bio overload.

Sounds like it. How long was the filter media from your canister inactive before you got your sumps up and running? It sounds like you lost your bacteria colony?

Once your sump kicks in it will be an excellent bio filter. Ask your LFS for some seed filtration material to speed up the cycling with your sump.
