If you have a hob filter and maintain the sponge media regularly, but always notice the initial ....poof of cloudiness when you turn it back on, take the basket out, take a flashlight and take a look in the bottom. You may be surprised at what you see.

You are right I personally remove the media and siphon the bottom of a AC110 bi weekly.
