Hi, I am new to posting at this site so I hope this question isn’t repeating too many other threads.

The water in my 46 gallon tank is cloudy white. Will it clear up by itself? Do I need to add a special filter? Is this just part of cycling?

The substrate is Fluorite covered with aquarium gravel. The tank was started up 5 days ago. It has 3 zebra danios. 10% water changes every other day. Penguin 200 filter with dual media pads.

Thanks for your help,
Pike

Post in something besides black :)

Most cloudy aquariums that are just getting started take about a week to clear up. It could also be high phosphates (esp. in an established aquarium). Be carful about how much you feed your fish.

Cycling or unrinsed flourite

Probably cycling AND flourite combined. New water is loaded with electrostatic forces when it goes in a tank causing all sorts of buffeting that makes the water cloudy. While all this is going on, bacteria is trying to find surfaces that it can colonize on. You should see considerable clarity in less than a month if you're running a penguin 200 with the stock media.

Message well received! Post in white, or at least not black.
Thanks for your replies. I found a thread from 2005 where someone said that white cloudy water was initial bacteria bloom. Hopefully, it will clear up soon.
