I've seen fish pile on top of each other at the surface of the water before feeding but nothing like this before. Is this how they spawn?

I think this is a defensive strategy.

really? that makes me think of when you see bees in tv shows...and they form a big hammer or something to squish the bear or what ever.

It looks pretty much like they have nothing to hide in, so they are all trying to hide behind each other.

:iagree: The most simplistic answer is normally the right one.

Deff not spawning...looks defensive to me. Nice vid...I would like to have some nice picaso clowns one day.

That is not spawning behaviour at all. When they spawn, the male and female will sort of "dance"/shake to eachother and lay their eggs on their chosen surface.

This is a defensove behaviour; they feel exposed and unsafe.
