Yeah what do you mean they breed them by the shovel??? Not calling you a liar but the fact you explained nothing at all to him about how hard it actually is makes me think you are.
Bit better explanation next time maybe.
They are easy to get to breed but clownfish like most marine fish dont have fry straight away they have a larval stage in which they float around in the currents collecting small animals and plankton to eat. It is almost impossible to have them survive and make it to the free swimming stage in a tank unless you either take the aggs out or catch the larvae on the night they hatch and raise them in a seperate rearing tank. Otherwise all the larvae are eaten by other things in your tank and destroyed as they go through impellers and filters ect.
They also need to be fed green water/phytoplankton which you can make at home but is alot of work.
Sorry but it does. Marine fish arent like cichlids or similar FW fish. It would be nearly impossible to get more then a few to survive in your main display tank and more then likely as in like a 99% chance none of them will survive. So without further explanation there is no way he is breeding them "by the shovel" in his display tank.
If you mean he doesnt know because its his friend who breeds them then i get what ya saying but then he shouldnt of said it was easy when in fact its quite hard.
