Clown knife breeding

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I have never heard of it being done, but i bet it would take quite a large tank and lots of work. Have you ever bred fish before? Maybe start with something a little smaller and work you way up

I've always wondered about this too. I wonder if they are being bred in Asia somewhere or if they are all wild caught.

There are people who have had eggs lais in tanks. Do not know the result. But it has been covered in MFK already, I think.

You would need a massive pond or pool to breed knifefish. At least thats how they do it in asia where they are considered food. Similar to fish farms.

If I were you I would finish the first pond. Don't get in over your head and start too many projects because than you won't get any of them done. That's what happened to me because I was building a pond and my tank at the same time and it was just too much so I had to focus on one of them

Yea I have bred fish before. Was thinking of making another 3,200 pond and filling it with 10 clown knifes, 10 royal knife, and 10 gold knifes.

Mixing knifefish is a very bad idea. Knifefish don't tolerate others of the same species, not to mention 3 different variants in one enclosure. This is partly why breeding them is very difficult. You can try, but I honestly doubt it will work. Just my 2cents. If your building a big pond, why not breed rtc or something like that? Its better suited for pond life than knifefish.

He already had a thread asking about breeding RTC. My advice: attempt to breed something a little more rare. That way if you succeed then it is that many fish that will not be removed from the wild. It is a better option than breeding the same big fish that don't belong in 99 percent of aquariums anyways. Just my opinion.

Asian arowamas can be bred in pond. Rare as well. Give it a try. Maybe give me some if you succeed! :p
