Excuse my ignorance but clown knifes are not for forte.I am planning on building an insulated ply tank by the end of this year for outside.I wish to move my fish from my 180 gal to this tank so I can move my Dovii into the 180 gal.Dimensions will be 10" x 3' x 3'6"(786.58 gal + the sump volume)Occupants will be a 13" RD/Midas,12-13" Pearsei,1 Salmon-tail cat at 18",1 salmon-tail at 12" and of course my Jar now around 17" and still as placid as can be(touch wood).I was wondering do you Clown experts think a Clown would co Hab in this large a tank with the others. The others live fairly peacefully in the 6' x 2' x 2' at present.Any opinions much appreciated. Also I would like to reintroduce my large Jag back into this tank but can be left out if needed. With enough space he is ok.Look forward to your thoughts.:)This tank will be outside but under cover, hence my need to have it insulated to keep temps at constant level.Tank design will be based on this tank shown and I provided a link to his page.http://westerncichlids.com.au/diy-plywood-tank-aquarium-1757-ltrs/

With my experience with Cichlids and Clown Knives, the Knives always seems to get picked on and scarred up. I think CKs do fine with Pbass, GG, Dats, and Aros...Cichlids are experimental.

I've never been lucky with CK's Greenterra....they always get the bad end of the stick....won't give up, though...

Experimental. That seems to be a common word in fish keeping:)

Is this because of tank mate damage or are CK's sort of like your unlucky unicorn in the world of fish?

Never keep a clown knife with a jaguar cichlid. It won't mind being picked on but the jaguar picks on him throughout the whole day and that's unacceptable.

I'm afraid both points are true, my Friend:(

Had a CK with a Red Devil they were like best of friends however the Jag would not stop harrassing the Ck the CK was 2 feet and the Jag was like only 6 inches.

my royal clown used to live with oscars but even in a 125gal he was picked on quite a bit so the only cichlids i would put in with my oddballs again would be peacock bass or bay snooks as these are pretty peaceful for large cichlids
