how can i train my clown knife fish to eat pellets. all he eats is shrimp but i want him to eat pellets to be healthy and strong. any suggestions?

How big is the knife? If is not to small and fragile, starve it for a few days and then try to throw sinking pellets so they land close to its face. Usually with the lights out. They seem to react better. I've grown a couple of knife fish from babies to over the 24" mark. They were not the easiest to get off live but did come around. Just keep trying with the lights off and sinking pellets.

If you have other fish in the tank that accepts pellets, just don't give it shrimp anymore. It'll see what the other fish are eating and start eating pellets as well. It probably won't take it right away, but just be patient.

ive used this method on a variety of finicky species... only i just cut back on their accepted food, keep them hungry not starved and usually takes less then a week. up side to doing it this way is the original food can still be offered, and the fish wont bounce around... the pellets get accepted, not replace the shrimp. example is my aba knife... he eats live fish, massivore, frozen krill... and no matter what i offer, its just accepted. so he doesnt binge/starve himself after eating feeders for one feeding, and pellets the next. instead of staveing him onto teh pellets, where ive had fish that offered their old foods, binge again and need to be restarved...

probablly way over explained but i am 100% against starveing fish, rarely does it lead to any long term good.

how long should i not starve him but how long should i not feed him then try pellets?
