clown knife has taken another severe beating

My clown knife is really messed up after a small cichlid attacked him, so i netted him out and put him in a small community tank. hes pretty messed up but i hope he will be ok.
he eats well on pellets and worms.

do these fish become tougher or are they always on the recieving end of beatings?
i dont want to see him get killed but as he as already lost an eye , should i put him out of his misery or try and raise him.

Clown Knives aren't that aggressive. They usually can hold their own, but I've found that more aggressive Cichlids (Jag) and Clown Knives don't mix very well. Mine lived, but it had some nasty scarring.

mine fights back, i never seen him take a beating. i've seen him get pecked at by gars/rtgg but he snaps back hard n quick it always looks like he's the one attacking them.
