My clown knife has grown from 4" to 8-9" in the last few months and as a result he is almost too big for the little cave I put in there for him. I see a lot of people online have clown knifes swimming around. the reason I added hiding spots for the knife was because he was small when I got him and he only has one eye. so I'm thinking if I remove his cave when he out grows it, would this cause him to be more swimming around during the daytime?

thanks

I made a rock formation from slate for my 12 inch clown knife. If you don't mind the lights being off then you could leave them off also.

Well its just that hes very active at night, And thats when I drop food in for my bichirs too. because anything that goes in during the day gets eaten by my GG, chocolate cichlid or the 3 tinfoil barb dithers.
I see videos of large clowns that are swimming around in the open in daylight. will mine do this if he has no cave to guard? or is it best to just give him caves and until he feels safe coming out he will?

this guy is pretty cool though even though he is one eyed he will hand feed shrimp from me

My clown knife has grown to 12-14" no where for him to hide anymore. He swims around looking for food. He gets a whole earthworm everyday. I am looking for him to double in size

It's more comfortable for a CK to have a place to hide, but it's not really necessary. While they will hide if given the chance, they can just as easily cruise around as long as they feel comfortable and nothing will attack it. My CK is around 7"-8" and there's no hiding spots in the tank for him and nothing that will attack him. So he just cruises waiting for me to drop in some food if he's hungry. Other than that, he just chills in the back and leisurely swims around.

CKs are noctural, so they usualy aren't too active during the day unless there's food involved. You can try dimming your lights a bit and he should perk up a bit.

The only real downside to keeping nocturnal species is that during daylight they don't do too much.

I already have really dim lighting on the tank, When I move the tank to my new house I am thinking of eliminating his hiding spot
