i am tryin to find a tankmate for my oscar and 2 baby limas. in a 125g tank that is a grow out for a 1000g. however i wont have the monster tank for a few years when i build my house. i keep going back and forth between a dat and a CK. i would prefer the CK but am afraid it will out grow the 125 too soon. for those that have had CK's grow at crazy rates did you power feed? do you guys think if i fed conservatively it could slow the growth rate a good amount?

Also has anyone experienced a slow growth rate with royals? I've heard they grow a lot slower.

Well...I think I feed pretty conservatively as well, especially when they past the 7" mark. And they still grow pretty fast. I currently have a RCK that I've had since July and it's grown maybe 2" while my CKs of the past would grow about an inch a month.

thanks ben. i saw ur old thread about your royal. im hoping this is the case with them. i really love these fish and would ike to get one soon. just dont want be irresponsible about it. what size tanks have you been housing the royal in? and ur Cks of the past?

The RCK is in a 75g. And with his growth rate, looks like it'll be there for a good while...LOL.

I think you'll be alright in a 125, the width of the tank is not great, 18", but these guys can turn on a dime...I'm still saving up for my tank

mine grow slow i've had two clown knive's for two months and they've barely grown. one however only has one spot on only one side, is he a hybrid or just weird genes?
p.s. he's grown pretty fast.

Just an awesome clown :headbang2

I have seen a 20" royal in a 55 at a LFS. He has since been moved to a 125 but still he wasn't having any troubles while I was there turning in that tight area. Not recamended but it's possible.
