i saw a clown knife, about 10in at the lfs and was really tempted to buy it..

i have a 55g with a 12in tire track eel, 2 5in pictus cats, 2 5in silver dollars, and a 4in bumblebee cichlid..

If i got the CK, would he get along with those other fish alright, and how long would it be until he needs a larger tank? What size tank would be ideal for him?

How soon would you be able to get a larger tank? I don't think it would go after the other fish as they are too large for it to eat. CK's (at least my ck) are mellow. If you can get a larger tank soon, I'd say go for it. The 55 can hold the ck till 12 inches at least. You can probably hold out till its about 14-15 inches (which is really stretching it), but then you would definately need a larger tank.

:iagree: but deppending on what u feed it i would say around 4-5 months befor it out grows

if that bumble bee is what i think it is. your gonna need bigger tanks for all those but the SD to live comfortably sooner or later ;)

buy it and get on craigs list for a new tank double or triple its current size or learn to overengineer filters

not everyone can be in cali like you (aka great deals on big tanks). I would hold off since they grow surprisingly fast and it sounds like your 55 has quite a bit of fish in it already... unless you already have a much bigger tank planned.

Not just Cali has good deals on large tanks, I got my 125 for $125.00, helluva deal imho. I would make sure you can and will have a larger tank within the next few months, and after you can confirm that, go about getting the fish.
