clown knife rescue

just last night i was in walmart (i cant believe i have to shop their ) and i saw that their fish of the month was Clown Knives! im shocked that they would sell them, not that i should really put it past walmart to inapropriatly sell fish. they had one 2" ck and he was badly beaten up and in with about 10 figure 8 puffers about 2" themselves. he was missing much of his anal fin and his "feather" was completly gone. he was gaunt and skittish and long story short i felt compelled to get him. i brought him home and got him some paracite clear ( just in case) and got him in with some salt, mela fix, and no more fin nippers! ill get a pic of this sad guy up soon and try to keep the thread updated on his health.

p.s. he doesnt seem to be eating, any suggestions to encourage him to eat.

i assume it will just take a couple of days of healing and low stress before he starts looking for food again.

We don't have a walmart petstore were i live in england. Although there is a series of shops similar called Pets at home. They have stupid fish that grow big and staff that don't know antything.

wow, ck at walmart. that's crazy. mine usually just stocks guppies and gold fish. along with your common. so they started stocking ck's at your local walmart or that was just one they were selling cause it was beat up?

it was the "fish of the month" so they were stocking it. who knows how many died in that tank with the puffers.

That is downright sad and it is so good you rescued him and gave him a chance, you know he was not likely to make it.. i would try little baby guppies in with him.. it will stimulate him and maybe at least get him to feel comfortable..later on you can get him off live food but right now you just want him to eat.. also try very small pelleted food.. good luck and lets us know he is doing..

Great job saving the CK. Hope you've given him dark corners to hide in. That'll help make him feel more comfortable and encourage him to feed. Rest it seems you know a lot as well.. Good luck and keep us posted.

yup i got baby feeder guppies the day that i got him but i havent seen him make any sort of move towards them. i have fake plants and such in the tank (the leaves are bigger than he is) there is a cave but its unlikely that he will get in there b/c my bgk thinks he owns it.

Wow, at wallyworld....how much was he? Sounds like they should have given him to you for free.... Good luck on the recovery. Keep us posted.
