So I put a AC 70 (802) powerhead into my 75 to make some strong currents for my fish, an figured that a AC quick filter without the cartridge would be a good safety feature to keep anyone from getting stuck against the screen.

However I forgot to replace the cap in bottom cover (I run two stacked for water polishing). So a few days go by an I notice that the powerhead has lost a fair amount of its power. I pull off the quick filtercage an sadly found that 1 of my clown loachs had swam up threw the hole in the bottom an met an untimely demise.

Yep, they'll swim into any cave like structure. Sorry for the loss.

i lost a clown once while doing a water change, up he swam into the tube and a few inch's into the pipe and got stuck, i cut the pipe a inch or 2 infront of him and left it in the water to see if he would come out by himself but he was well stuck, so i cut the pipe down the middle and got him out, he passed a few day's later :(

It has taught me to check those quick filters if I plan to use it for safety, thankfully I rarely use them for safety.

That sucks big time.

What do you mean by quick filter? I use a AC 30 powerhead on my 90gal. for added circulation and there is a little rubber washer at the bottom. What is this quick filter everyone is talking about?

sorry about your clown loach.
they do seem to like to go into tubes/holes.
that why i'm a little hesitant to add a sump to my loach tank. they might accidentally go into the overlow.

My 75 (that has most of my loaches) has a sump, just make sure the overflow intake an pump output are loach safe. My overflow has a screen on the outside of the tankside intake so the couldnt even jump into it. An my pump outputs are up outve the water so they couldnt even attempt to jam in those.

Thanks for the iformation on quick filter Joey!
