I want to buy some clown loaches but IME they almost get Ich within the 1st week. what should I do when clown loaches get ich and my inhabitants include an arowana, bichir, and convict? i dont like using meds and i'm worried the arrow and other tankmates cannot handle the salt and high temperature. advice needed plz!

Best thing to do is get a hospital tank handy. I wouldn't want anything to happen to that Aro and bichir either.

I am not sure about the Aro. The last two times my loaches got ich with other fish in the tank, I raised the temp. to 86, and I put 4 tablespoons of salt in for every 5 gallons of water over a couple of days. It worked great both times. This last time, my two Senegal Bichirs did not seem bothered.

I hate to bump an old thread, but I have a couple more specific questions and this topic should cover them exactly.

The 3 CL's I'm raising for my mom have had ich for a few weeks now and just don't seem to be getting any better. I didn't have a Q tank to put them in and they were in w/ redline torpedo barbs who don't like warmer temps (I know...stupid). I bumped the temp to 86 and had a couple of the barbs die, so I brought it down to 84 and the last one seems to be doing fine, but I had a Q tank open up tonight, so I put them in there by themselves. The ich is getting pretty bad, but none of the other fish have gotten it. Oh, yeah, I've been putting in 1 tbsp per 5 gallons.

So, is 89 degrees and 4 tbsp/5 gal. okay? I know people already gave answers, but just making sure. Thanks.
