Hey guys,

I'd like your thoughts on clown loach and white spot infestation. Whenever I've bought clown loach in the past, they have ALWAYS developed white spot as they seem to be extremely susceptible to it.

My question is, if my supplier has clown loach and has had his stock for well over a month; with no white spot, could it still develop if i brought back a small group?

I was under the impression that white spot couldn't lie dormant, but would appreciate some insight into this; I'll have to give serious thought as I don't have a quarantine tank just now, and want to avoid anymore ich after recovering from an outbreak only recently.

Thanks

Yes, it's possible, especially if your supplier has the CL tank filtered on a central filtration system that's tied into other tanks, with other fish. Some fish can carry pathogens (ie on their gills) and show no outward signs of being infected or sickly.

Good shout, think i'll hold off until I can get a quarantine in place; hate how susceptible clowns are to it

You know I have always read that about clown loaches, how susceptible they are.. but that hasn't been my experience. I have had on going issues with disease in my tank (kinda under control today) but my loaches have always been resistant from what I have seen.

I used to have a single clown loach when i was a noob, bought him at 3 inches; he was ok and once established was really quite hardy, I'd say it seems to be when they're first brought into the tank is where the danger really lies.
