i have 2 CLs for now and 1 of them has lighter orange n black coloration compared to the other 1...
is that normal? theyre both eating like pigs...
thanx

The lighter loach probably is feeling a little stressed. The fact that it is eating like a pig is good. You could try adding so more hiding spots to make it feel a bit more comfortable. The best solution would be to add 3 more loaches because they feel less stress in larger groups.

Depends on the moods and origin. Clowns can be found in Sumatra and Borneo. I can't remember which one is more colorful than the other. I believe it is Sumatra but I need to check it again first before I can confirm.

Could be a dominance issue between the two.

I bought 2 CL's and a month later found a deal on 3 more. They all have about the same orange and black coloration but the second 3 have a beautiful bright golden stripe on the sides of each black line whereas the first 2 don't. It looks pretty cool.

they had initially the same coloration. the lighter 1 always hides in back of the intake. i guess its a dominance thing

I'm new to CL's but I'd reccommend getting at least 3 more.

You'll see better activity and color once you have more. I recommend 12 for the best results.

The Sumatran loaches typically have better orange colors, and apparently the ones from the Kalimantan region are even better, however they are rarely exported.

I have 3 CLs. They were all very bright when I first got them. I purchased one (stayed without any other loaches for about 3 months and bright as can be) and then 2 more a couple months later. I had maroon gravel in my tank and I thought it was stealing color from the loaches so I changed it to black gravel. They looked awesome for about a week now they all seem to be losing their colors and turning a disgusting black. Please don't tell me they are trying to blend in with the gravel! One is maybe 4" the other 2 are 3". I see them fight occasionally but nothing serious. I have never seen CL's look so ugly. I will post pics but in the meantime please give me some opinions as well.
