A friend of my husband wants to give me the 3 clown loaches in his tank so he can take the tank down and get rid of it.

I am not sure if I can take them or not and am hoping someone can help me out.

I have 2 potential tanks for them. I am worried about compatibility with my existing fish in one and environment in the other.

180 gallon (5'x2' foot print)
1 tilapia (20+inches long- territorial ass hole)
1 Common pleco (13" inches)
1 tiger loach (10+inches)
1 jewel cichlid
8 tiger barbs
20 danios (assortment of species)

This tank is NOT planted and has standard aquarium gravel as its substrate. I am worried most about the tilapia and the tiger loach.

125 gallon (6' x 1.5' footprint)
5 goldfish
3 hillstream loaches
1 pitbull pleco
1 clown pleco
12 white cloud Mountain minnows

This tank is planted, but is not heated, its substrate is pea gravel from Agway. In this tank I would worry about winter time water temps and the gravel being too harsh on their tender noses.

I am not willing to set up another tank for these fish. Could they be placed into either tank? I also don't want to attain enough additional clown loaches to complete the school.

Should I help this guy out, or tell him to ask someone else?

I wouldn't put them in either

im looking for some to put in my tank

ill take them off his hands

Santa Paula isn't very close to CT. Are you going to pay for shipping and such?

While great fish, the CL wouldn't do well in either of those set ups

This is exactly where I am at. I know how great they are to have and have often pondered getting them. But that tilapia is Lord and Master of his tank, and I know the tiger loach in there can be a real stinker when he wants to be. I just don't think the clowns would thrive.

So I thought about the goldfish tank..Its indoors and is just what ever temperature my living room is. I often leave my heat at its lowest setting and wear a hat in the house rather than raise the temp on the furnace. It gets down to 58 in the winter although in the summer its a lot higher than I want to admit to.

any one else have a thought?

Clown loaches are tropical fish, there's no way they would be able to handle 58 degrees long term. I've found they actually prefer around 84 degrees.
