I need some help as my gang of loaches are all starting to get ick...I have treated them with salt (although I read that salt isn't good for their skin?), and I've kept a tank temperature at around 82-84. I also do around 20% water change on their tank daily. They all eat healthy on bloodworms, and shrimp and are super active but WTH is going on!

Water parameters are perfect except nitrate being 10ppm-15ppm....

HELP as all my loaches are 4 bar, and oddballs with dots!:(

Salt & heat is the safest & most widely accepted method. However, I have been using CopperSafe for well over a year on my Loach tank & it has been ick-free ever since. Please do your research, but depending upon tankmates (no inverts or catfish) the CopperSafe worked great for me.

I bumped my temp to 86 plus 2 tsp salt/gallon for almost a month before i got rid of the ich. Well, they actually disappeared after 2 weeks, then I kept them in those conditions for a little while longer. I did this all in a 10 gallon btw, with eight loaches; some 1.5", some 2", and two were 4". I didnt want to treat in my 60 gallon.

It usually gets worse before it gets better so just give it time.

I've used 4 tablespoons of salt for every 5 gallons of water with clown loaches. I didn't do any water changes at all until all signs of the ich were gone for 3 days. Also, temp at 84. I've done this treatment with clown loaches several times and with other types of fish. A lot of people will read this and say I used too much salt and I should have done water changes. However, those people imo have been too conservative and have probably lost fish to ich. This method has always worked great for me. The ich will dissapear in 3-4 days with this method.

Heat it up and wait it out. 86+...

I've heard of some people going higher so I dont think your ratio of a little over 2 tsp/gallon is a big deal :)

I've done salt and heat on cl and never had any negative reactions from the loach...although I make sure to do larger WC than usual to get more salt out afterwards

Thanks all. Stuck to the old salt and temp plan, and all went good. All of them are now clear of ick, but will still keep up the treatment for another week....
