40 gallon, 4 clown loaches plus other fish, temp steady at 27.5, nitrite at 0, lots of plants and algae I've let grow on the lava rocks, excellent filtration...

Ok so the problem is that my fish are flashing against objects. I brought the clown loaches back and put them in a spare tank for a few days KNOWING that they had ick when I got them. The ick clears up, I bring them over to the 40, and boom it pops out all over again. No biggie, I treat it with salt, stick up the temp and it goes away. So here we are at least a month later, and several of the other fish are flashing up on objects, although completely healthy aside from that. There's just one fish that's continued to have problems, that's one of the little loaches. He hasn't been eating much at all, very lethargic... he hasn't gotten as big as the others, but he's also not "wasting" away (I've had a clown with skinny disease). He's just kinda really small, and not growing... but still not sickly looking... his gills look a little bit red, more than the others but I can't tell if that may be because he's just thiner anyway.

Any ideas? Anything I'm leaving out without realizing? Thanks in advance guys any help is appreciated.

i'm really sorry that i'm not going to be any help, but clown loaches seem to be quite difficult. i've had several in a school and to begin with i had a hard time finding them food they'd eat [besides my snails lol, but i didn't have a problem with that], and then once i did find them something so that they all were eating, two of them seemed to have this same thing happen to them... they were active and everything, but they started to look a little thin, and then swam wunky when they were swimming in the current together [kind crooked, but they still swam and kept up and hung around with everyone else], and then eventually died in under a week.. i didn't know what was wrong with mine but i hope you find a solution for yours and make your little guys better. good luck

Sounds like worms also. I think you have to treat all new clown loaches for ick and worms as soon as you get them. It's the only way to be safe. You can safely treat both at the same time. High temp, salt and a product with prazi and metro in it for the worms should do it.

I would also try keeping them a bit hotter, try 29 degrees celsius on a regular basis. IME they do much better a bit hotter.
