Hey Everyone,

Would be searching this however the search box isn't working. I'm just curious on what are safe meds for loaches. I've heard you could use any med as long as you 1/2 it, is that true?
I would like to add aquarium salt to my tank just for piece of mind, as the loaches in thier have been thier for almost 2 weeks and the silver dollars in 3 days. A video can be seen in the general aquaria section, I don't see anything wrong with any of them except one of the silver dollars who keeps going up and down the left side of the tank till food is in (still adjusting according to other members). I do cary other meds like melafix and pimafix....will be getting in some meds for worms thursday just to feed it to them...just for peice of mind.

Thanks

Here is a vid of all of them, seem happy not stressed...I feed them 3 times a day till I notice thier bellies are bit plumped.

I heard somewhere that when fish arent quarentined at fish you should add some kind of med but I doubted it especialy since they are all eating fine and being sociable. This thread was mainly just for kinds of meds that are safe for loaches in the long run.

Most ich meds are safe in half doses. If you want to err on the side of caution, you could bump the temp up to 86 and add a half dose of salt. Won't be harmful to the fish and it will be the easiest way to ensure there will be no ick.

I haven't had to treat my tank with anything more than purigen but I've never had a problem with adding a "literal" handful of non-iodized sea salt in my 110 with every WC that is housing 10 CLs. I forget exactly how many tsp to gallons that turns out to be, but it's not enough to bother the loaches at all, although I make sure to dissolve it in the stream of new water on the opposite end of the tank they're hiding in.

Hey everybody thanks for the info. I will just wait if any sighn occur as like mentioned, Id probably cause some sense of stress adding anything. "Why fix it if it's not broken" lol, however I will treat for worms.

I agree, dont treat if you dont need to. If things go bad, i've used rid ich in a tank with cichlids and clown loaches at full strenght and the loaches survived, but were stressed and didnt eat for a few days. If I had it to do over again I'd use the higher temp and salt method if I had an ich outbreak

I will defintly perform the salt and temp treatment first. Today in the mail the horse dewormer I ordered last week with (fenbendazole) looks like a white cream is that right? Dont want to add it to the tank if it is gonna cause and health problems to the fish. I read the sticky "skinny disease" maybe I didn't do such a good job at reading but how do you calculate for smaller quatities of pellets instead of the 1 pound mix it says? Thanks also based on that read I feed for a duration of three days and wait a fews weeks before doing it again...and that should be enough. Thanks
