I'm not sure if I'm in the right section but I was watching my clown loaches chase some feeder guppies I bought for my Leichardti and one of the loaches which is about 4 inches catch and ate one of the guppies! Is this normal for loaches?? Because I've kept clown loaches before and I've never seen or read about something like this...

hahahah wow thats crazy. a clown loach eating a guppy? i dont know if ythats normal but im pretty sure its possible. hows the leichartdi doing by theway?
My father has 3 decent sized clown loaches in a 210 with about a bazillion mollies and I see them devour a lot of the new borns and sometimes the bigger ones. He also has two huge ryukins in there. He used to have 4 little orandas in there but the clown loaches beat the living $hit out of them. Clown loaches are a very mysterious fish.
That must have been one small guppy. A 4 inch clown loach' s mouth wouldn't even be a centimeter wide.
full adult clowns (rarely seen in hobby, 14"+) will even eat very small clowns as well. like most fish, if they can get it to fit in their mouth...

When clown loach get older and mature they seem to develop a taste for meat. i have noticed this with my 8 inchers. they will devour small fish and other sources of meat too. i have heard from one of my colleagues that has worked on a Asian aro farm and a river where loach where caught they do actualy become quite predatory if need be.
