Anyone ever had the combo together? If so, how did it turn out because I am possibly considering getting some.

I am doing this combo right now. I have read some bad things occuring but so far mine have been good. The hard part was getting clown loaches large enough that my rays would not bother. I have 15 clown loaches (7-9" each) in my tank with my 3 adult female rays (13-19" discs). No issues at all but there is also some driftwood where the loaches can hide and the rays can not get to them. I keep close track of my loaches as the rays have eaten their fair share for fish already.

Doable with large loaches...

I have seen it done quite often.the only problem is I have seen rays kill the loaches and the barbs the loaches have kill the ray to. So make sure you have large loaches and the grow very slow.

well the loaches i am looking at getting are 4-5" long and that is the diameter of my ray, so I was wondering if the loaches would stress the ray out?

As long as the loaches are big, because if they look like they would fit in the ray's mouth, thats where they will be going, and you have to be aware that the loaches have that switch blade by their eyes which will cause very serious damage if they were to be swallowed by a ray. Over all its a risky combo, but can be done.
