So i added 5 loaches to my 125 about three days ago and guess what now my pike cichlid is showing ich (hes always my indicator for some reason). Anyway I did the converstion from teaspoons to cups for the salt and came up with a little over 5 cups would normally be added so knowing that the loaches are sensitive I added 4 cups. The heater is only a 300w and is really struggling to keep up anyway so I ordered a new 200w that hopefully should be here by the weekend so that I can kick up the temp. Anyway do you guys think my loaches will be ok or do I need to do a big water change when I get home to pull the salt out?

Did you quarantine your new fish? If not, you should always quarantine them regardless of the circumstances. There is no excuse why you cannot quarantine possible disease carriers.

Dissolve the salt first and add slowly.

yea I didnt. Guess what im doing this weekend?! setting up a 20L quarantine tank. Im a jacka** I know. Live and learn. On a high note the loaches are being their happy goofy selves today. I got them some frozen bloodworms and them (and the rest of my tank) went crazy so im not as worried about them now. thier color is also awesome

I use two teaspoons of salt per gallon for Ich treatment and raise the temp to at least 86 degrees F.

You can go heat and salt with the added aeration for 14 days at 87 F. Or go with coppersafe from mardell. Has never let me down in the past when dealing with new arivals with ecto parasites. Will not harm scaleless fish. But what ever you decide do it fast and best wishes.
