Stuck inside my own head
Sorry it's been a while since I've been online, but there haven't been any changes in my tanks and I've gone back to gradschool so I don't have free time anymore.

Anyways, I recently went out of town for the weekend, I followed my normal procedure of giving a little extra pellets and a fresh piece of zucchini in my MT before leaving. It's a 110 with Mbuna and Clown loaches and has been running perfectly stable for years.

When I returned from my trip Sunday night I noticed that one of my largest clowns had passed, I've had him for about 6 years so I thought that age was a factor in that. The next morning I see two doing a much better job of playing dead than normal, and when I get home from work it's obvious they're not playing. Lost a fourth large one tonight.

All the other stock appears fine and the remaining Clowns are still out and swimming about. Does anyone have any ideas what could be causing these 4-6" Loaches to die off with no warning?

I'll check my water and reportback once I did my kit out. What surprises me though it that it's the largest, most established stock that's dropping and the 40+ fry are cruising around like its notihing.

I can tell you your loaches did not die from old age. Clown loaches are very long live fish. The oldest fish in my tank are decade old clown loaches that out live all my cichlids, still showing no sign of aging and as active as in day one I got them. It's strange what killed your CL as established CL are very hardy and resistant to all diseases except ick.

My main suspicion has to do with something that got into our water supply. With all the harvesting going on around here there could be some pretty ugly runoff from the fields after this last storm that went through.
