Big City...
Good afternoon,
i got 3 clown loaches about 5-6" and they hide in the tree stump, since i got them 1 week ago.
the tank is a 40 breeder with plenty of clay pot hiding place an some sword plants. The other fish is 8 skkp mammons 2'5 3 red tetras 3 black tetra's.
Filteration eheim 2217 along with 3 hydor circlation pumps ph7.0 temp 86 plus led lighting for 6 hrs a day
im wondering i got them to big an they are very shy compared to the smaller ones
should i get more??
thanks
henri

Hi. Ive had that problem before too but the problem i think is that they need some time to get used to the environment. It took mine 3 months plus now when ever i come up to the tank they are the first ones to come up. So give it some time

It may seem counterintuitive, but continue to provide them with hiding places. The more they feel they have a safe place to retreat to, the more comfortable they will become exploring the tank. With time they should become less timid. But if there isn't much tank to explore, they may not come out often. A 40G doesn't provide much room for a 6" loach; I think you'll need a larger tank and more of them to make them feel more confident roaming the tank. Mine are as personable as oscars (even my 6"+ fatties).

+1 The more hiding places, the more content they are in their environment. Also, tank size does matter. I recently got my 250g, the change in behaviour from when my shoal of 10 were in their 80g and now in the 250g is absolutely crazy.

your set up sounded really similar to mine. I had to take a pic and share. although I got 3 clown loaches 3 weeks ago and they are 1.5-2". they were completely comfortable immediately . at night all 3 do disappear into the tree. but during the day they are out and about. after a week they were already coming to the top when I walked up to feed them. ive noticed the larger/older you get your fish the long and harder it is for them to get used to you. I have an arowana for 2 months now and it is still afraid of me (purchased at 7" roughly)

I will take a picture tonite once I get home. The only time I see them come out is once all the lights are out an about 2 hrs later I see them running around looking for food. I have a 120 they will go into once there bigger n less shy.
Almost pulled the tigger for 6 more but for 3 inches !
But the responeablity of being a father to a 3 month old son n bills is more! Then to my relaxment of my tank n toys
