I've tried it in the past with no luck.....well it was when i first set up my african 125 gal setup a year ago but am thinking of tying clown loaches again...........Any imput??? Last time that i tried that mix both loaches eventually died!!!???

I agree with Oddball but I have kept Clown Loaches in hard water with success. It's up to you if you want to risk a few 5 dollar fish.

10-4 phil, it's just that i have seen a lot of people do it in the past, even on this site, thats why i put the question out there................but i guess i will stick with what works (synodontis cats) and let the loaches be!!!:)

African cichlids - hard high-alkaline water

Clown loaches - soft neutral to acid water.

I have CLs in with alkaline species and aragonite gravel in the tank. However, I made sure to use well aged aragonite for the least amount of leeching. I also placed some bog driftwood in the tank. My water is fairly hard, especially with added rift lake salt for the chromides, however my pH hovers around 7.2 instead of above 8.0

I mhave 2 Clown's in with my mbuna. The one has been there from when I started some 2,5 years ago. Has grown quite well. Introduced a new small one to another tank some months back and it is doing extremely well. Have also a couple other loach species in my tanks. Kuhli's are doing well as is the Botia striata and also the Pakistani's. Nbuna don't bother them as they give as good as they get.:naughty:  :headbang2 :nilly:

Don't get a fright if you see your Clown lying on its side. They do this as they are resting. When we first observed this we thought the chap had died but then I read somewhere that this is something they do. Blue loach does the same.

lower your ph, add the loaches, and let the ph slowly rise. you put loaches in shock if you throw them into a high ph tank if they aint used to it.

I havent but I know of a few who have done it.The key seems to be a long slow acclimation like days or weeks to change to the higher ph.
