Have a 125 in the process of setting up. It currently has a few Thor. Maculipinnis and will eventually house a pair of pearsei or bocourti depending on what I can find.. and some assorted dithers.. mebbe danios or rainbow fish

Will 3-4 clown loaches be ok, or are there going to be issues between them and the Thoricthys?

As long as they're all about the same size it should work out. Clown loaches are very capable of defending themselves.

i really doubt there would be issues betweem the clowns and the maculipinnis.

Clowns will be fine. Unless they're WAY smaller, and very young, they'll do fine with Paratheraps/Vieja and Hetichthys. Give them a large driftwood piece or two to hide in, they'll be in that tank forever. Buy 11 or 13. Always odd numbers. Never less than 5.

I don't know why, but that's what everybody says.

I had clowns with Meeki and they never paid any attention to each other. Should be the same for Maculipinnis

How about clowns with larger CA's? I was hoping my 3 clowns would get bigger so I would move them over there but they seem to stop growing in my 70g. Got fatter though. I don't see the issue with having less than 5 clowns. they seem rather happy. it's more with the activity. we have schooling fish and others that are constantly moving and they are just as happy joining in.

I currently have 12 and the last time I kept clown loaches I had 3 :) No problems. These fish are a pleasure to keep.

They should be fine with most larger CAs as long as the sizes are reasonable.
