I don't know what catagory these fish belong in but I was wondering how hard are they to keep in a 30 gallon tank? At $10 a pop at Petsmart I was thinking of getting two of them and put them in with the 1 comet and 2 common goldfish I have in the tank and two crawdads. I was also thinking about buying a Jack Dempsy or a Fire Tiger Oscar. What is the best choice for a 30 gallon?

your overstocked with the goldfish already, also, you have a coldwater setup the fish you list are tropical

As stated above, the additions you're asking about need warmer water than the others. Also, the crays are known to take fish out, and loaches are right in their territory. I'd say it's a bad idea.

3, 4 inch goldfish is overstocked in a 30 gallon? So if I gradually warm the water up over the next month to 75 degrees will that support clown loaches?

goldfish are pigs of the aquarium, they produce loads of waste and will grow.. if you warm the water they will produce more waste and although small and manageable now...they wont be for long...also clown loaches can(will) get big so yes you are overstocked unless you upgrade as your fish grows.

What if I move the goldfish to the bass tank I am sure that they will survive in the tank with my 12 inch largemouth (only for 30 seconds) . Yeah I notice that they make alot of waste I have about 12 in my 20 gallon goldfish tank all of them are commons and comets except for two which are fantails. They are a really neat looking fish those clown loaches.

yeah i really love them when they are small, not so fussed when they become monster though...lol

this isnt my fish and i cant credit the owner(sorry),i got it from another forum a good couple of months back....

Clown loaches like the tank around 82 degrees or a little higher. Anything lower and there is a good chance that they will get ich.

I agree with everyone else, goldfish and loaches would be a bad idea. The clown loaches would not make it.

You would be just asking to kill your clown loaches.
Not trying to be harsh, but as already stated they like 80 degree or so temps and they're prone to ich. They're sensitive to water quality and in tank with massive waste producers like goldfish you'd probably have nitrate problems at the least.

They also get to a foot long, albeit slowly, so a 30g would be little more than a growout. Same goes for an oscar, they get between 12-16 inches long, and unlike clown loaches are not slow growers. Comets and commons also get a foot at least and can end up over 2 feet long, they're really not suited for less than a pond or very large tank as adults.

So basically you'd end up with several fish that are growing and would like to be fed a lot in a very small tank. Recipe for disaster, IMO.

crawdads, is that another name for crayfish?

first of all, 2 clown loaches is not enough.. infact, keeping less than 5 should be a crime.

second, you have a goldfish tank, and clown loaches are tropical fish. not a good match.

third, if crawdads ARE crayfish, then you're just wasting your money because they'll eat the loaches.
