I was looking into fetting a couple of clownknife fish for a huge tank, 8'x3'x25"high to be exact. I know that this is a huge fish, but i think they would be a great fish in this tank.

In the tank, the clowns will be sharing the tank with 2 longnose gars and 1 silver arowana and maybe a few endli or ornate birchirs. Just a few questions:

Which one of those two would you recommend, and i know how much normal clowns cost but what about a royal clown, how much would one of them go for?

Also is it safe for them to be in a tank with: sand, driftwood and live plants?

And what is a ideal diet for so cks?

Any help/advice would be much appreciated:D

cks will do fine in a planted tank. (i would jus make sure not to much sharp edges of dw.)
sounds like your setting up a mean tank.
idk about cincinatti but anything more then 100 for a 10 inch rck would be nuts i think.half or less for a silver clownknife.
they will eat anything if trained to. i would say near diet of aro is good.plus the sinking stuff
mix the fish near size. idk i think the gar would eat them if there small no ?

i wanna see a pic of all this ;)

Either one would be fine. The RCKs look better, but I prefer a CKs temperament. They aren't as shy and grow faster. Both are basically the same with care. They prefer bloodworms when they're small and feeders. Shrimp is also good. Pretty much any well balanced diet...Pellets, Cut pieces of Shrimp and Fish, Frozen Bloodworms, Freeze-Dried Krill, etc.

alright thanks benzjamin what kind of pellets? And i was going to do 2-3 of these guys to occupy the bottom of the tank is one number better than the other, like aros, where if you have 2 of them they fight, but when you get a group of 3 or more there fine? and they will be sharing the bottom with 2-3 ornate birchirs could this work?

I have a 400 gallon 96" 48" 20" and keep three knifes together. Most people would tell you to only keep one or they will fight. I have a 17'' clown knife, a 16" royal clown knife, and an 11" black ghost knife. They ghost knife keeps to himself and hides out most of the time. When the other two knifes were introduced they seemed to almost spoon each other. Recently they have split and my royal has taken over the territory they once shared. Trail and error.. every fish is different. They get huge and not just length but in height. Several feet in the first year or two and they continue to grow. If I was to make a suggestion I would just go with one. Generic C.K. should cost around $20-30 and you can expect to pay anywhere from $40-100 for a royal and even more at larger sizes. The extra $ for the royal wont even be felt compared to feeding cost. I would go for the royal. As for food... I use a mixture of smelt, shrimp, and earthworms. I use live feeders every other day and my royal loves them. They will eat pretty much what you provide. Just starve them for a few day and you would be surprised a fish will learn to eat what you give them. Do some shopping and find out what food you get in you area the cheapest and that's what I would use. Just be sure to keep a varied diet.

alright thanks, do you know where i can get any royal cks around 10-11", because i like the ways these look better

I always had good luck with Hikari. Your stock seems to be fine. Just ask your lfs. They should be able to get them or better yet, ask around here in the Buy/Sell Forum.
