how many clowns could i put in a 55 reef. there are a ton of hiding places and only 3 pj cardinals and a pair of black and white clowns in there now but im looking to put 2 more. will there be any problems?

a 55 gallon is way to small to have more than one kind of clown. i wouldn't even do it with a 6 foot tank personally. a trio is possible but the 3rd will always stay small and most likely die.

they are both ocellaris, but 2 are normal and 2 are black

I have a friend that has 5 perculas in a 20 gallon tank. They have been in there for about a year now, with no problems.

All clowns are damsels..... Most do not get along with conspecifics. True and False Perculas live in family groups in the wild. You might get away with another percula, but I would not try any other species of clown.

It's true. Mixing any species of clowns is out of the question. You can oly have 2 of the same species and that it. Sory I know these aren't the answers you wanted to hear.

I had 2 perculas and one big maroone clown in a 125g with a ton of live rock for hiding places. all those fish did was beat each other up untill the last man standing the odd thing is that i would never find them dead? they just disapeared! So, long story short.. I only have one clown.. a big maroone

The maroon clown is without a doubt the nastiest of all clowns. I have a pair of them in their own tank and as soon as my hand touches the water she grabs onto me. OUCH!:WHOA:

I would be careful about mixing clowns...

They are territorial and generally do not get along with other soecies of clowns
