Hello,

I finally decided to buy 10 Clown Loaches for my tank with 10" Black Arowana and 12" Pleco. Because Clown grows very slow what will be the best size to buy ?

I have 2 options. One is 3,5 inches for $29.99, or 5,5 inches for $50. I don't know if 3,5 inches will be not too small. What do you think ? And 10 Clown Loaches will be OK ? I know that this fish like to be in group.

Thank you !

in a 180, 10 will be fine, the bigger the better cuz your arowana will grow faster then your loaches. i have a 6" clown loach and a 5" blue botia loach with my 22" leichardti, all is gravy

i had a 3.5" botia loach as well, my aro didnt touch it, but my endli gobbled that sob up darnit. n i was worried the aro would lol

OK, That's mean, to buy 3,5" is too risky and better way is to buy bigger one ? Or 3,5" should by OK ?

Its up to you, as long as there are ample hiding spots....the smaller lot should be fine...just provide shelter if arow gets hungry and things will be tip top :D

I would definitely go with the larger ones. My 16" silver aro tried to eat a 3" loach a few months ago. Luckily I saw it and was able to get the aro to let him go, but the loach still died 3 days later. I thought the loaches would be ok since I got the silver as a baby and I raised him with a school of loaches, but it obviously didn't work out. If something will fit in another fishes mouth, it'll probably end up there. I've seen it work out for other people, but I wouldn't risk it.

I was planning on starting a thread about aro and loaches together out of curiosity.

Depends on the individual arowana, i got my silver as a juvie and kept him with clown loaches since birth. I never fed my silver any feeders or live foods, only pellets and foodsticks. I have about 10 clown loaches, many only 3-5cms and can easily fit in his mouth. My loaches swin in groups to the top of the tank searching for food alot of the time. The Silver is now about 45cms and he never seems interested in them.

I also have 17 bloodparrots which can also fit in the silver's mouth and they grew up together. The silver never touches them.

Not sure if he will turn on them when he gets bigger but its been ok for over a year now.

Hi,

Yesterday 10 Clown Loaches size 3,5-4" arrived from "That Pet Place" - http://www.thatpetplace.com/

Price: $187.40 + shipping and handling 49.90 (Fedex - Fedex Fish Only
Priority Air)

Store did exactly what I expect. Fishes are in excellent conditions ! FedEx was on time. I have healthy and beautiful Clown Loach. Perfect packing, great communications ! I wish that every store can be like That Pet Place. I recommended !

So far so good with Arowana.

Thanks !

The bigger the better. Due to its slow growth as mentioned already, the arowana will outgrow the loaches soon enough, regardless of whether its 3 or 5 inches. The best thing you could do is provide shelter for them, as their speed will help them out in the open. I big piece of driftwood or rocks should do the trick.
