I picked up a couple clowns in October of last year. I was told that the stripes would come in and I picked one that almost had no stripes because I wanted to see them come in. Since October, The smaller clown has had very little growth with its dot/stripe.

I was curious if you guys had any idea how long it takes or if it will be a misbar (which I would really like actually). First pic is when I first got it and the 2nd pic is from a couple days ago. Both sides of the fish are the exact same.

You can also see that the bigger one in the first pic is black and now its not at all. I was curious what causes this. I feed a varied diet so I am thinking its got to do with the lighting. Just curious if you guys knew or had any experience or tips on getting the black back.

From what I know, I don't think they grow into the white stripes at all. I think they are pretty much born the way they are.

As far as the black going away on the bigger one, I don't know the cause of it, but am very interested in what does.

agreed on stripes not coming in. the black i believe it fades with age

There will not be any/much change at all with the striping.
A good example:

Clowns like the ones above are usually sold at a markup and called something fun like "painted" and garbage like that.
They are sold that way because they will stay that way.

What type of anemone is that? I read somewhere that a certain anemone can cause the color to fade. If I can find exactly which anemone I will pass it along. The stripes should fill in over time.

i've never heard of something like that. are they a pair, sometimes dominance can cause fading.

So any thoughts on the lights possibly having anything to do with the coloration? I didn't know if the more intense lighting from say, a 20K metal halide, would cause darker coloration compared to T5s.

Its a rose bubble tip anemone (entacmaea quadricolor) and they go between 6 of them in a big group. They have been hosting the clowns from the second I put them in the tank.

They haven't been together long enough to be considered even bonded. I have read that they need to be together at least a year for that, but they are always together and show zero signs of aggression. I bought them from different batches so there is one considerably larger.

Bubble Tip Anemone is the one that was suspected of causing the loss of the black coloring. The white stripes may not come in if they are misbar clowns.

Sweet clowns dude...Im in the market for something just like that. Hopefully divers den has something cool at their open house this month.
