i am interested in getting a larger knife for my tank, probably a clown
i was wondering about growth rate?
and tank mates. from what i'm reading it doesnt sound like a clown would work for me, but i will ask anyhow

ideally i want one about 9-15" so he has a head start on my other fish. i have 3 pbass about 5-6", a 4" silver aro, and a 7" TSN

the tank is a 220 for the time being, eventually i will have to go bigger of course, tank size isnt an isssue, they will have space when they get bigger

any advice for me? i am new to them so anything will help, thanks

Growth rate for cks is astonishing. I had one at about 20", and it only took him a year to get there from about 3.5inch with juvy stripes. Unless you plan on purchasing (or rescue) a ck that has already been trained to accept prepared foods, you are going to have to do that yourself. Your tankmates should be fine, but I'd be carefull with all of them until you are sure there are no signs of agression. If you have a grow out tank, you can buy a small one and it will grow to the size you need in a few months.

REALLY? i thought they were slower growers than my other fish ... maybe i will just do that then!! :)
i enjoy watching them grow, but i was assuming they grow slower. i guess thats what happens when you assume!

what/how often did you feed him?

Unfortunately, the one in my avatar passed due to an unfortunate accident. I now have two smaller ones, and the one has grown just over 3.5 inches in around two months. I've had to keep them on feeders on and off, with about 50 rosies a week, and started to drop in thawed silversides right in front of them to get them to take the prepared. Once you can get them to do that, it's usually not a problem getting them onto a sinking carnivore pellet/bottomfeeder pelllet. That's how it worked for my lil guys.

a clown would be fine with those tank mates get one around 6''-7'' if so it doesn't get eaten by the peacock bass if you got one over 10'' or so it may eat your aro Pbass grow really fast to you they wouldn't be in danger i would try to get an aro a little bigger by the way but it wouldn't be to risky aros can grow fast to the Pbass would be the ones that would eat your aro just so you know
Also try to get it to eat other things besides feeder all those fish can get hooked on feeders and it can be hard to get them off them feeders aren't good for your fish they have little nutrition and can carry parasites and such
