I have absolutely no idea about African Cichlids. What is a preffered tank size to keep them? I have another tank but its only a 20. And if they are anything like CA cichlids they just can't be kept. I was wondering if there are dwarf species in the Africans or not? Im not sure if I should be posting this in the Rift Lakes or the other option. Really Im clueless past CA Cichlids!

There are quite a few dwarf african cichlids from Lake Tanganyika that are suitable for a 20 gallon tank. Check out some lamprologus, neolamprologus, julidochromis, and telmatochromis species to name a few.

Wow some of those Dwarf Cichlids are pretty looking. Are Africans typically more social then the anti-social behavior of CA Cichlids? I've read somewhere they usually do better if they have tank mates.

Ya, overstocking them usually helps with aggression. But the minimum size tank I'd keep lake malawis in would be a 65g.... If keeping tanganyikans a 20g minimum, a 30g would be better though

Thats just my opinion though, other people may say you can keep them in smaller tanks, but personally I wouldn't. I've seen people keep mbuna and peacocks in 55gs for years but I hate the 12" width....that aint much room to swim for most lake malawi cichlids once adult, especially when considering how much the decorations take up in space
