i have a DIY co2 that goes through an air stone then into a bell. my problem is when the bell fills up some co2 gets out thus making the bell useless. well a few days ago the mixture ran out while the bell was still full. today it doesnt seem like any of the co2 from the bell has diffused into the tank.

should the co2 in the bell slowly disappear?
and when i make a new mixture should i get rid of the trapped co2 in the bell for the new co2 or leave it?

You have to find a way to mix the co2 with the water. The most popular way is to have your co2 stone under a power head. So that the bubbles get mixed by the propeller of the power head.

doesnt the bell do the mixing?

I do not see how if it does. It just creates a air pocket in the water. Its like taking a glass a turning it upside down and sticking it in the tank. Your are not really mixing anything, your just trapping it in the tank. ---------------------I thought that you needed some sort of difuser to mix the co2 and water.
