if i did a co2 bottle (yeats in some sugar water) would an airstone work to be a diffuser? or is a diffuser more than something just making a bunch of little bubbles?

whould just a bunch of fish in the tank make enough co2 to not need suplementation?

Planted tanks for beginners

Read the sticky. Your fish will only produce a minute amount of co2. Surface agitation is bad, and reaction co2 will also produce a small amount. How big is your tank, what plants do you have, and do you have good fertilizers? A standard bubbler will not be very good at diffusing co2. It produces far too large of a bubble.

20 gal.
it's my ctenopoma poly growout tank. there are a lot of plans in there but any of the grassy kinds of plants i put in there never seem to do so well. so i figured i'd add some co2, see if that works.

a Whisper 10 and a Top Fin 20, both are HOB's
AGA "Aquarium Light" 15W! which i just found out.
that's terrible! i'm suprized anything's growing in there at all!

your problem is lighting. with the hobs running your just going to gas out what ever co2 your adding to the tank. you can get a second strip light or look into power compact screw in bulbs. the ones you can get from walmart or something. if you go with the daylight 6700k bulbs thats a cheap and easy way to get some more light over that tank.
