Hello,

I recently set up a co2 injection system into my planted tank, it is not automated and I constantly measure the pH and hardness to estimate the co2 levels. My question is this, all I am housing in the aquarium is a banded gourami and an osphronemus gourami, and I was wondering if they can suffer from co2 poisoning like other fish, or if their ability to breath air will prevent it. Also, what are some tell tale signs of co2 poisoning? Thanks!

I wouldn't consider this poisoning in that sense. A lot of fish however do suffer suffocation from excessive CO2. You also have to watch your pH and hardness levels ESPECIALLY if your hardness levels are very low. Usually a fish suffering from excessive CO2 become listless and gasp heavily at the surface.

These gouramis you have will have a better chance surviving the disaster, yes. They are labyrinth fish and can breathe air properly from the surface even if your water becomes oxygen-depleted.
