Co2 question?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
The little co2 for paintball would cost more than full presurized in the long run. Fermentation reactor is cheaper by a lot in the long run.

I thought it would be cheaper, I was just wondering if anyone had tried it. I want to get a pressurized system for my new 40 gallon breeder setup, but I am a student and money is somewhat tight. I think I might just find a big plastic container and make it into a generator.

Don't even try a big plastic container, 2 liter bottle works GREAT! For a 40 gallon you should be able to keep just one 2 liter, but that is dependent on how many plants you have. On my 135 2 -2 liter bottles weren't even close to enough. Pressurized was much easier, and in the long run it will be much cheaper. If you want to get just the reg/solenoid/pin valve combo, then you can build a cheap reactor, and a bubble counter, quite easily. You can get that combo for around $70-80 online. For the fully automatic expect about $160.

Ok... First thing is first. MAD PROPS ON THE REACTOR! I built mine out of pvc, but that one is 10000000000 times easier, and probably don't have to worry about sealing. Second thing the bubble counter... drsfostersansmith.com sells a REALLY cheap POS plastic version of that for 26.99, and it is worth $.03... Great job.

Thanks. both only took a couple minutes to make and the bubble counter probably only costed me about $3, but I have not been able to find a place that sells the tubes I used. The reactor costed about $15, but that is only because I already had the power head. I know there are other ways to make crap for tanks. That is why I am starting to do it. I'm on a student budget. I have used diy co2 before, but how good does it actually work? Should I use it on my new 40 setup or forget about it since I will be using an wet/dry sump?
