Well Peanut said this might happen and it sure is. My male cobra pike is trying to kill my female. He wants to breed in the worst way. The females fins are terribly ripped and shredded and she's hiding in the corner of my tank. Should i put up a divider? They have been getting along great up till a few days ago. If it came down to it and i had to get rid of 1 i'm assuming i should get rid of the male right?

Aye, my xingu III went through this several times...I put in a couple of rocks arranged so that she could only fit in the hiding places, and did the same with clay pots...key thing is provide an escape for her cuz otherwise he will kill her...which will really suck. Mine would do this over and over, it would last for a few days, and then all would be great for awhile, and then bam, all over again. I think some pikes are actually solitary, and only come together to breed, which is why this happens. I wouldn't get rid of any of them just yet, add some more hidin places, if it gets really bad put in the divider. As a last resort, move the male to another tank, don't get rid of him...haha..cobras are pimp pikes, why get rid of them just cuz they fight?

i just took out my female pike and placed it in my 125 with my pssiticus, urau fernandez and chocolate. All is going well so far but i'm weary of having my cobra in with such mellow fish. they are all bigger than the pike so i'll give it a few days.

Pikes aren't like other cichlids....even if she is ready to breed, the male may still try to kill her. They are fickle...to say the least. And DW...i've got my psittacus in with my pikes, no problem...;)

Thats why i moved her. i read that you had yours with psitticus so i figured i could try it too. So far she seems happy and gets along with all the other fish. i'll try her with her mate again later.

Yeah, I used to have my xingu II and my cobras wit my psittacus no problems, then i moved them so i could put my other pikes in wit the parrots....lol. Lets just say I wouldn't keep lenticulatas with parrots...hahaha. My dominant psittacus and lenticulata are always flarin at each other...haha

My female pike is awesome in my 125 gallon. I don't think i've ever seen her so colored up or so active. She seems to really dig her new set up. No aggression out of her so far just lots of swimming and hanging out in front waiting for food. She's eating pellets already.
