Hey Everybody,

My aunt's cockatiel use to be always vocal, affectionate and wanting to come out. It even would wait until 11:30 for my uncle to come home to greet him with lots of chirps and wanting to come out. It even goes up to a bar where my uncle would stick his finger to pet it's head.

Well now the same cockateil is quite all the time, not affectionate except for the occasional head scratch. It's usually puffed up on the bottom of the cage or on a perch...eyes closed.

Any ideas?

needs to go to the vet i would say. <My cockatiel died one day 16 years after i got him. he showed no signs of illness. Like i said I would take it to a vet if possible

This has been happening for the past few days and she is always eating. Thanks for the replies, I will tell her now...just difficult to find vets for animals besides dogs and cats in the bronx...how ever will give it a shot.

birds weaken very fast. prey animals instinct tell them to hide all weakness, so when signs appear they need treatment now.

Just to make sure-- what are the temperatures in your house? She does sound sick, but a cold bird will also puff up and act lethargic.

You can search for a boarded avian veterinarian in your area here: http://www.aav.org/search/

true, an avian vet is best, but many small animal vets can & will begin treating bird conditions when no avian vet is in the community and they consult with AV's. it's worth calling around if you're in a pinch. here, for instance, they have a little incubator type thing where birds can sit inside to given inhaled treatments which act faster than other approaches. birds' respiratory systems are so tiny it makes them more vulnerable than dogs or cats.
Good luck! Post a follow up and let us know how things go.

Hurry and get him to a vet, my budgie died because it had fluids in its lungs and didn't show it till the last day. There was no warning

Hey everybody, just wanted to thank everyone for the replies....but the cockatiel didn't make it to its appointment.

I've feel this bird a few times over my aunts, feel bad cause it was my uncle's buddy....

RIP Lulu (bird's name)
