Hello, I plan on getting some kind of snake (Possibly a Cali. King or a corn) in a couple weeks, and I have a 10-g critter keeper tank set up already with coco-soft substrate and I was wondering if this substrate can have an adverse affect? I know peat moss, etc. are bad, but the coco stuff is supposed to be digestable, am i right?

Im asking here because ALL substrate says "digestable" on the container :P

The coconut fiber substrate will be fine... coconut fiber substrate really shines though in it's ability to hold moisture, for snakes that require a high humidity. But for a cal king or a corn, aspen would be just as good. Just don't get an oily wood substrate (like pine or cedar) as the oils are toxic to snakes. A 10g will be good for a young snake, but as it grows it will need a substantially larger enclosure.

and if you feed your snake outside the tank, then theres no chance it will ingest a substrate at feeding time anyway.

:iagree: I have a Sterilite bin set aside just for feeding time.
