i got a small setup..around 6 gallonsish....im just lookin for a or a couple small common fish to put in WITHOUT a heater..any suggestions? i was thinking some comets but not even worth it cuz of tank size and i dont want the bio load build up...what owuld you do?
barbs?

Shrimp, guppies, or some of the smaller killies are all I would try in such a small tank. You need a bigger tank for barbs, especially since they do best in a fairly large school.

i would suggest guppy..
-they are very active at all time..
-beautiful little ones.
-easy to maintain
-can live without heater,filer,oxygen pump.
-also easy to breed

mountian minnows are great. No Heater! or you can go for rainbow dace and paradise fish...not sure if they're available in your area. you can also get plenty of cold water butterfly pleco's. they're tiny a look great.

Just curious, nozebleed- do you have any pictures of rainbow dace or know the scientific name? I suspect they are Notropis chrosomus, which is called rainbow shiner over here.

i dont im afraid..i'll try take a pic in my local LFS over the weekend..i did have a look on google and there's a few pics but the fish as colourful as usual.

Johnny darters are cool little fish, very fun to watch their unique swimming antics...and since you're in PA I could tell you where I find loads of them, if you're close enough to that area.;)

The only hard part is catching them...they are called 'darters' for a reason. :D

You could get some mosquitofish, they are very east to maintain and don't need a heater

For fish in a petstore, White cloud mountain minnows are gonna be your best bet. You could also go and catch watever small minnow and try them, but remember to make sure that whatever you catch will stay a small minnow.

Ah, that is our red shiner, Cyprinella lutrensis. It's a popular baitfish here. :D
