I recently aquaired a 125G tank, and I was planning on setting it up in cold area of the house, like its really cold. And my parents think that in the winter with it being so cold and the tank water hot the tank will explode/crack. is this the case? and also, has anyone seen a significant change in their electric bill when running a tank of this size? thank you zach

Yea if the heaters running all the time its going to cost$$
Its gotten down to 50f in my house and theres never been a cracked tank.

a glass heater will only crack if there are sudden violent temperature swings, im talking about a heater out of the water for a minute while its on and then plunging it into water. and the water doesnt have to be cold for the glass to crack, room temperature will be cool enough. If you have a heater in cold water before you turn it on and THEN turn it on to heat it up, there is no way it will crack.

you will be fine, jsut dont take it out of the water while its on and then plunge it back into the water.

if your tank is acrylic thats a benifit

acrylic insulates alot better that glass, adding some minor relieve to you electric bill.

Either I misunderstood what you said or you misunderstood me, I have a titanium heater....I am worried about when winter time rolls around again when it gets super cold will the water in the tank and the cold air on the outside cause the actual tank to crack? (sorry wasnt trying to sound like a jerk dont take it that way plz) thank you zach

ohhhh hohoho!

i see! :nilly:

you will be perfectly fine :D

yeah it's fine. drastic and sudden change is the only thing that can do that.

85* tank plus 50* room isn't drastic.
180* heater plus 70* tank, however, is
