Would I get less evaporation on a coldwater pond than on a trop. pond? I want to make a pond for my bass and bowfin but I don't want to deal with all that mildew, mold, and humidity. Also how often would I have to do waterchanges if I had it lightly stocked. Say a 1100 gallon pond (8'x8'x2.5') with a couple bass, 1 bowfin, gar, northern pike/ chain pickerel. Possibly a couple bluegill or green sunfish.

Well yes, as evaporation is generally linked with heat, there would be less evaporation.

Well that is good then...Now anybody got any answers to my other questions? Thanks

Not sure if water changes would have to be any less, but having a lower stock would make filter maintanence less. They are big fish though that produce a lot of waste and messy eaters, so water changes will still have to be done.

You get a hell of a lot less evaporation if the tank is at the same temperature as the room, as apposed to heating the tank above room temperature.
And if you under stock, generally less water changes are needed. However as said, you have some very messy fish in that stock list, the bass being the culprits in that. And what gar are you planning?

Yea I am just kinda trying to plan how I would go about doing a water change....It would take really long if I were to use the kitchen sink (closest one to the door) so I am not sure. Not exactly sure if I want anymore bass at this point or not. I think I may just stick with one (the one I already have). I was deffinatly thinking spotted gar as they are native to Michigan and I am kinda going for a Michigan theme on it. So far I have a bowfin and a bass that I have grown up from an inch. Any other suggestions, comments, tips? And what would be more good fish for this pond....remember native to Mich.

Is this going in the basement? Do you have a washtub down there? It shouldn't take that long. We use like 60 gallons when we take a shower so 600 would be like 10 showers. Just sit and watch or get a drip system!

Evaporation is not just effected by qater temp. Room temperature and humidity are big factors in tank evaporation. Nature tries to equalize every thing.

What kind of filtration?

Not sure on the filtration. Probably like 4,000 GPH or maybe 3,600 (I think I can get a couple 1800 gph pumps for pretty cheap).
