What would be a good coldwater ddition to a pond housing goldfish and koi that would survive year long weather with scortching summers and rough witers? A friend suggested common plecos..?
how about chinese algae eaters? they and pleco's are both capable of living with goldfish and koi.
I doubt they can survive the rough winters so forget pleco and CAE.how about chinese algae eaters? they and pleco's are both capable of living with goldfish and koi.

Highfin sharks, red rosies, golden orfe, common carp and few natives (sunfish, minnows, etc) are good choices. Albino catfish, bullhead, bowfin and gar are good pondmates for large koi only.
Highfin sharks should be do well in mild winters. There is a report of a New York pondkeeper kept them outside through a winter and the sharks do fine. From what i've been told the high fins won't survive in the extreme cold or scorching hot.
I know someone in New Jersey that has had one in his pond for the last 3 years. Fish survive the cold winters as long as the pond doesn't freeze solid. They do grow to a very large size. From what i've been told the high fins won't survive in the extreme cold or scorching hot.
