How long will a collared be good for in a 20 Gal. terrarium? and when i do upgrade how big should i get ?

If its only a baby it will be well for a wille, for a big one its defenetly to small. A good size would be 1meter long by 50cm wide and 60cm high, since this are active and largist lizards, this size would be great for a male and a cople of females;)

One, well at least 80cm long by 40cm wide:confused: And males are bigger than females but its more or less the same regarding the enclosure size

A friend of mine use to keep a pair in a 40 gallon breeder. I'd go with a 75 gallon for a pair. The more space the better. Maybe a 40 breeder for an adult male.

I would say that 20 gallon will last you very little time, they are very hyper active lizard and should be given more room, as Seth stated minimum 75 for a pair.

also do they like a terrarium thats taller? becasue i saw at my local pet store one was running around on the stick and wasnt really on the ground

and how hot should the enclosure be and do they need any special lighting?

Look up a caresheet because I don't remember how hot they need it. I would recommend a UVB bulb and I would say a horizonal cage is best with lots of rocks to climb on and sandy soil to dig in.
